Comments: Last December I hurt my right shoulder while doing some volunteer work. I couldn't lift my right hand or use it to lift anything heavy. The pain in my shoulder kept me awake in the nights. After a few months of pain medications and home exercises, things only got worse. So my PCP ordered a MRI to be done. MRI results showed chronic damage
to various tendons around the shoulder area as well as a bone spur.

I met with Dr. Cheung towards the end of April. She was very thorough with her diagnosis and open in discussing the pros and cons of various treatment options. She made it very easy for me to make the final decision, to go with shoulder surgery at the earliest. I went for second opininion to a sports medicine specialist in Palo Alto. He at first missed part of the diagnosis related to biceps tendon, and later offered to do it arthroscopically. Dr. Cheung stuck to her guns and explained to me why the biceps tendon should not be repaired arthroscopically and needed a separate incision for better healing. I am glad I listened to her and stayed the course. Dr. Cheung performed rotator cuff surgery along with biceps
tenodesis, on my right shoulder, in May. Within six weeks the wounds had healed and I was relatively pain free. Now after 4 months, with physio therapy, the range of motion of my right hand is very close to that of my left hand. I hope to regain full strength in my arm by end of the year.

I need to give special kudos to Dr. Cheung and the amazing team at Stanford hospital, who operated on me. They were very dedicated, loving, patient and competent. As someone who is very squeamish of needles and blood, I was dreading the surgery. But Dr. Cheung and her team
put me at ease and made the whole experience very pleasant. I would highly recommend her to anyone who is looking for a shoulder specialist.
